The European Investment Bank (EIB) has announced that Plutarchos Sakellaris has been named as the organisation’s new vice president.
He joins the investment bank from the Hellenic Ministry of Economy and Finance, where he was chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.
Sakellaris will assume his role on 1 August, when he will take on the task of overseeing financing across a swathe of nations, including Denmark, Ireland and countries in Africa and the Pacific.
In addition to this he will be charged with responsibility for the Economic and Financial Studies division and operations pertaining to energy policy.
During his career Sakellaris has represented Greece on a number of international committees, and immediately prior to his appointment worked as a professor in the Athens University of Economics and Business.
