Nobuyuki Hirano is to join the Board of Directors of Morgan Stanley.
Hirano was nominated by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. which, last year, embarked upon a $9bn equity investment in the American financial services firm as part of its global strategic plan.
Mitsubishi UFJ, of which Hirano is a director, is the largest financial group in Japan, and the second largest bank holding firm in the world.
In addition Hirano is senior MD of the firm’s commercial banking unit, The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd.
He is a longterm veteran of the firm, having joined it over 30 years ago in 1974.
During his lengthy tenure there he has held a range of senior positions both within Japan and overseas.
Morgan Stanley’s chairmand and CEO, John J. Mack, has welcomed the appointment and rpaised Hirano’s extensive experience in banking.
