Deutsche Bank, Germany’s largest bank, has announced the appointment of Mike Gelhard as the firm’s new MD and global co-head of Emerging Markets Corporate Credit and Special Situations.

He joins Deutsche Bank from investment bank UBS where he covered Latin America and Asia as head of High Yield and Distressed Credit Trading.

Earlier in his career he held other posts with UBS and Citibank in Australia.

Gelhard is to be based in New York, and will report directly to Sean Bates, MD and global head of Emerging Markets Credit Trading (as will Gelhard’s co-head Tim Zundel).

In his new post he will be tasked with the responsibility for origination, risk management and corporate credit distribution in Latin America and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Bates has welcomed his appointment, and praised Gelhard’s record of experience in the fields of high yield and distressed markets, which will bolster the bank’s team.
