Nationwide aims to shorten its customer response times with the installation of a new document management system.

The building society has selected EDM Group’s Scan on Demand business solution, which provides flexible access to archived customer data.

DM currently manages 2.5 million customer files at its Wolverhampton site. The firm can scan and upload documents as required and should be able to provide Nationwide with instant access to its archived material.

The material is uploaded to “EDM online”, making it accessible to over 3,000 Nationwide employees from any networked PC across the building society.

The service uses technologies and techniques applied in online banking services and the access provided to customers’ files is fully auditable.

According to Chris Shott, head of business logistics at Nationwide, the solution will allow for future business transformation and has reduced retrieval turnaround times to a few seconds.

Nationwide, which is currently the UK’s second largest mortgage lender and the second largest savings provider, has awarded an initial five year contract to EDM.
