Royal Bank of Scotland is introducing a new service to allow customers who have lost their debit cards to access emergency funds.
The scheme will provide a cardless method of withdrawing money from any Royal Bank of Scotland group ATM (The group comprises: Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest, Ulster Bank and Tesco Personal Finance).
Customers who have lost their debit cards, or are the victims of theft, will be able to call the bank’s “Lost and Stolen” helpline and request access to the Emergency Cash facility.
A series of security questions will follow and if these are answered correctly, a unique PIN, that is valid for one use only, will be issued.
The PIN has to be used within three hours, after which it expires but even so the bank is recommending that it should not be written down.
In terms of using the cash machine, customers will be able to press any of the six blank keys on the ATM key pad.
This will bring up the “Emergency Cash” screen and the customer will be able to access up to £300 by keying-in the PIN and following the on-screen instructions.
The Emergency Cash service will be provided free of charge until 11th January, after which a fixed fee of £5 will apply.
