Major Spanish credit card fraud alert

by Gill Montia

Story link: Major Spanish credit card fraud alert

Details of a major credit card fraud in Spain are beginning to emerge.

According to a BBC report, Visa and Mastercard credit card holders who have used their cards in Spain may have had their card data compromised.

They are therefore advised to check their statements thoroughly and are assured by Visa and Mastercard that contact will be made with customers thought to be at risk.

A Spanish credit card processing company is currently under investigation and it is understood that any cases of fraud are likely to be related to criminal activity at the company, rather than skimming.

In Germany, some 60,000 Visa and Mastercards have been taken out of circulation, according to a report in the Financial Times Deutschland.

The problem is unlikely to relate to Germany alone.
