Thomas A. James, the chairman and chief executive officer of Raymond James Financial, Inc., enjoyed his night at the Ernst & Young awards, winning the prize for Entrepreneur Of The Year 2008 in the financial services.
The awards have been going for over 20 years, and seek to recognise those responsible for innovative thinking, successful practices and commitment to their work.
James was at the cutting edge of utilising private contractors in financial services when he was first a CEO at the age of 27.
During his time with Raymond James Financial the organisation saw rapid growth, and built upon the family success begun by his father.
Eagle Asset Management, which manages tens of billions of dollars of investments, had its creation managed by James and he founded a number of new organisations including Raymond James Capital, Ballast Point Ventures and the Raymond James Mutual Fund Group.
