Co-operative to offer legal advice via bank branches

The Co-operative is to offer legal services through its high street banks, in an initiative pioneered by The Co-operative Legal Services (CLS).

CLS has teamed up with sister organisation The Co-operative Financial Services (CFS) to analyse how legal advice can be dispensed through selected Britannia branches.

A pilot scheme involving three branches in Bristol providing free legal advice will take place over the next fortnight.

After the pilot scheme has concluded its success will be assessed and utilised by CLS to put together a plan for future implementation.

CLS Managing Director Eddie Ryan said that the Legal Services Act would radically change the way that solcitior services are delivered in England and Wales.

CFS Retail Managing Director Rod Bulmer stated that there are nearly 350 Britannia and The Co-operative Bank branches across the country and that they represent great potential for bringing extra services under one roof.
