Dutch bank ING has announced that Jan Hommen, the firm’s chief executive officer, is to step down with effect from 1 October 2013.
Hommen will be succeeded by Chief Executive Officer of ING Belgium Ralph Hamers.
In addition, Hommen’s four year term on the Executive Board will come to an end shortly after the AGM in May though the Supervisory Board will propose reappointing him until 1 October to help ensure a smooth transition period.
Hommen has had a seat on the Supervisory Board since 2005, and in 2009 he became the firm’s chief executive officer and chairman of the Executive Board.
Supervisory Board Chairman Jeroen van der Veer said that Hommen had done an outstanding job as ING’s CEO during his four years in the role.
Van der Veer also said that the Board welcomed the fact Hommen had agreed to stay on for five more months to help ensure a seamless transition.
