Nomura has stated it has completed its European oil and gas equity research team with the additions of Alastair Syme, James Talbot and Michael Alsford.
Syme, who joins the firm from Merrill Lynch, is to be based in London and will head up a team of four to cover the European oil majors.
Talbot, also previously with Merrill Lynch, joins Nomura as an industry specialist.
Leaving behind Morgan Stanley, Alsford comes to the firm with responsibility for leading coverage of oil and gas exploration and production companies.
European refineries will be handled by Ryan Kauppila, and Iqbal Naseem will cover European oil services companies.
Nomura’s head of EMEA equity research, Paul Norris, has stated that the recent hires form part of the organisation’s strategic plan for international expansion.
Norris went on to express excitement at the potential opportunities available for Nomura in the present business environment.
