The coming week will see the European Investment Bank dispatch an important delegation to Brazil.
The delegates will be engaged in discussions aimed at considering ways in which the EIB’s activities within the country can be expanded.
Both state and federal level representatives of the Brazilian authorities will be meeting the EIB’s party, with an emphasis upon exploiting new financing opportunities that accord with an environmentally sustainable worldview.
Jean-Louis Biancarelli, the delegations leader, has said that transferring EU expertise in the fields of telecommunication, high speed trains and industry will be one of the key discussion areas.
Brazil is the principal Latin American country that benefits from EIB loans, with 24 made totalling 1.4bn euros in combined value.
The EIB’s loans to Brazil make up almost half (48%) of its loans to the whole of Latin America.
The EU Council has asked the EIB to lend up to 2.8bn euros to Latin America for 2007-2013 for projects that complement EU co-operation strategies, with a further 3bn euros for projects pertaining to energy security and sustainability.
