David Benson has been named by Nomura Holdings, Inc. as the firm’s new chief risk officer, and senior MD.

As chief risk officer, Benson will become responsible for the worldwide management of Nomura’s risk profile.

In this role he will be tasked with working in collaboration with heads of business and regional chiefs to ensure that the organisation’s risk model continues to fit in with the strategic business approach, and that the firm’s balance sheet remains in a strong state.

Nomura’s chief executive officer and president, Kenichi Watanabe, explained that the firm’s approach had enabled it to sidestep most of the difficulties encountered by others during the present economic turbulence.

Because the firm is not busy reacting to problems, it is instead focusing upon opportunities, and the new appointment, welcomed by Watanabe, reflects this.
