Dutch bank ING has announced the appointment of Karien van Gennip to the post of director of European and International Affairs.

Van Gennip will assume her role on 8 September, succeeding Violeta Ciurel who vacates the position to become regional chief executive officer of the firm’s greenfield insurance operations within Central Europe.

She will be tasked with the management and promotion of ING’s European interests through fostering relationships with international organisations, as well as national government bodies.

At present, van Gennip is a member of the Christian Democratic party in the Dutch Parliament.

In her political career she has served as Secretary of State of Economic Affairs and Minister for Foreign Trade.

ING’s chairman, Michel Tilmant, has expressed his delight at van Gennip’s appointment, describing her as an excellent candidate.
