Robert Zoellick, the World Bank’s president, is to commence his first official visit to Africa.
During his journey he is expected to visit Mauritania, Liberia, Ethiopia, and Mozambique.
Recently the International Development Association has been replenished, allowing the World Bank to increase its African support.
In Ethiopia, Zoellick will become the first World Bank president to attend the Ordinary Assembly of the African Union, where he will deliver a speech to the heads of state and government.
The two organisations are developing closer ties and collaborating more and more in their efforts to improve governance and tackle post-conflict countries.
Zoellick’s presence at the summit will bolster ties between the African Union and World Bank, and afford him the opportunity to discuss rising food prices and the development of agriculture with African leaders.
In addition to his African Union visit, the president will also visit a number of leaders in their own nations, and engage with them on a range of issues.
