Barclays has made some changes to its mobile phone banking service which will now allow customers to make payments to third parties.
Claiming a first in the UK, the bank says the latest addition means that customers can pay funds to existing or new beneficiaries set up on online banking.
An interface has been developed specifically for viewing over a mobile phone, which should make it simpler and faster for customers to do their banking whilst on the move.
The group’s digital banking director, Sean Gilchrist, says: “The growth of consumers using our mobile banking services has been phenomenal.”
He adds: “We are taking the lead in the market with a dedicated mobile phone banking site, which is the most flexible way of evolving services for customers and our mobile service isn’t limited to a single mobile device.”
Barclays launched mobile phone banking in May 2009 and the service currently receives around a million visits from mobile devices every month.
The facility has been developed to operate on all the main mobile platforms including Apple, HTC, Nokia, Motorolla and Blackberry.
