Governor Zhou Xiaochuan, the leader of the People’s Bank of China, has personally headed the Disaster Relief Working Group in its work providing relief in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Sichuan Province recently.
Governor Zhou has inspected the Chonqing Operations Office, and directed the efforts of the group.
At the Chonqing Office a donation from the People’s Bank of 500,000 yuan was delivered to support the disaster relief mission.
Financial institutions in Chonqing suffered differing degrees of damage from the earthquake, causing damage to some buildings and disrupting the intra-city bills exchange systems in places.
To help ensure financial stability the PBC and Chonqing Office have been working to help restore financial institutions to normality, so that access to funds and services does not become a further problem for the many millions of people whose lives have been so dramatically affected by the disaster.
The Chonqing Office was praised by Governor Zhou for its effective response to the crisis.
During his time there the governor was met by the mayor of Chonqing, Wang Hongju, who welcomed the governor and thanked him for the assistance the PBC had rendered to the financial and economic situation development of Chonqing.
