Dutch bank ING has announced the appointment of Lard Friese as chief executive officer of Nationale-Nederlanden, as well as chairman of the Dutch Intermediary Division.

Friese will succeed the incumbent, Ludo Wijngaarden, who leaves the post on 1 August.

The appointment will be effective from 1 September of this year, subject to the approval of De Nederlandsche Bank.

Friese is presently CEO of Ceská pojištovna, the predominant Czech insurance and pensions firm.

He has over two decades of experience in the insurance industry, and has spent 17 of those years in the markets of the Netherlands, Central Europe and Japan.

During his career he has held a range of positions with ACNielsen, Aegon and now Ceská pojištovna.

In his new role he will report directly to Jacques de Vaucleroy, executive board member with responsibility for insurance within Europe.

Friese has a wide range of experience in both the Netherlands and internationally, and has a proven track record of leading organisations, according to Jacques de Vaucleroy.

De Vaucleroy went on to express his belief that Friese would achieve the goal of successfully continuing the firm’s transformation.
