Lloyds Banking Group has announced the closure of its customer contact centre in Brighton, with the loss of 373 jobs.

It is understood that the Sussex House centre will shut in the Spring, with its work transferred to other Lloyds sites across the UK.

Referring to a planned headcount reduction at the group’s life and pensions’ administration centre in Aylesbury, Unite national officer, Rob MacGregor, said: “The result of this plan is that in just three weeks 580 Lloyds employees have lost their jobs in this small geographical region.”

According to the trade union, the formation of Lloyds Banking Group has so far cost over 15,000 jobs.

Analysts originally estimated that the total cull from the merger of Lloyds TSB and HBOS could reach 30,000.
